The US print media market has been impacted with the downturn, with visitors and the number of contracts signed at the show disappointingly lower than Print 05. Though the slump has prompted cost-cutting measures, KBA and its subsidiary KBA North America Inc put up a brave front by exhibiting three sheetfed presses (small, half- and medium-format) on its attractive 800 sq/m stand. Only Komori from Japan offered a similar choice. KBA recently relocated to Dallas, Texas.

Also popular were the demonstrations given on a KBA Rapida 106. The eight-colour press, with DriveTronic SPC dedicated drives, QualiTronic inline colour control, sidelay-free infeed and LogoTronic Professional production management system to promote ultra-fast job changes are appreciated by US printers for completing fifteen different 4/4 perfecting jobs of 500 sheets apiece in less than 60 minutes.

At half-time it looked as though the high-tech press line exhibited would be snapped up by a printer from Canada. The few contracts signed at Print 09 were mainly for small and half-format presses though the volumes of 2005 and 2006 could not be reached.
