Al Omeira Printing Press in Abu Dhabi, UAE has installed a Heidelberg  SM52-5D  which is claimed by the manufacturer to be the “first in the region”.

According to technical manager at Al Omeira, Priyadarshi Singh: “We purchased the machine at Drupa last year and had it installed at our press in March.”

According to Singh, the installation took “around eight to ten days” and did not require any employee training once it was up and running. Our employees had already worked with similar machines. In fact they find the Heidelberg much easier to handle and are happy because it’s speeding up their jobs.”

Talking to PrintWeek MEA about why the company opted for this specific machine, Singh said: “We had been looking for a machine that could do online die cutting for ages and the only company that could offer that application to us was Heidelberg. Nevermind that we also needed a five-colour machine, the fact that this model allowed for faster turnaround and makeready made it a great buy.”

According to Singh the company also purchased a Ryobi four-colour as well as a sheetfed hologram machine from Ali Alhashemi. Both machines were purchased at Drupa. Singh said the hologram machine was installed in March with the Ryobi installed in May. He added that the company had been “very busy”.
“When news of the recession first hit the world, everyone seemed to freeze,” he said.

“But that was only for a month. Now we are back on track and the jobs are still coming in.”

The press was established in 1970 and now has a 60,000 square foot premises in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It has 90 employees and caters to security, commercial and computer stationery across the GCC.
