The Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and United Printing and Publishing (UPP) have signed an agreement to develop a certificate in a work readiness program (WRP) in printing and packaging, as well as diplomas in printing and packaging and printing management (printing maintenance).

This initiative is said to be the first of its kind in the printing and publishing sector in the Middle East and comes after numerous articles were written by PrintWeek MEA focusing on the lack of print training and development in the region.

The agreement was signed by H.E Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, the minister of higher education and scientific research of HCT and Mohamed Khalaf Mazrouei, the chairman of UPP, both based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

According to reports, over 200 students will be enrolled in the inaugural year.

UPP’s Al Mazrouei said of the partnership: “We are proud of this strategic partnership, which falls within Abu Dhabi Media Company’s commitment to support the local talents and create talent training opportunities. Abu Dhabi Media Company remains committed towards the youth and to hold up media infrastructure in the UAE.”

General manager of UPP, Ali Saif Al Neaimi said: “Our market is in need of professionals in the printing and publishing industry, a sector which provides 15,000 jobs in the Emirates. As we are providing the much needed support to ensure the success of this strong partnership, the program will offer certificates in the field of print management besides production and operations.”

Vice chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology, Tayeb Kamali said of the deal: “We are committed to training our future leaders with the skills employers seek to ensure that they find productive and meaningful employment. We are extremely proud to partner with UPP to provide our students with the opportunities to develop these skills and careers.”
