Dubai based commercial printer, Masar Printing and Publishing is venturing into specialised packaging industry. This comes after investment into Bobst Visionfoil 104. The die cutter with foil application is expected to be installed by December 2010.

Talking to PrintWeek MEA, Mohammed Mubarak, technical services and training manager said: "We were attracted to this particular machine because it offers the same speed of 7500 sheets per hour for die cutting and foiling application as well. The decision was made to choose Bobst because we found the Bobst to be market leader in die cutters. The main features of the machine we liked are the auto register and we can use three types of foils in the same job."

With the total investment of about $1.2m the printer aims to enter into speciality packaging like perfume boxes and greeting cards etc with more detailed artwork.

The investment comes with other machines likes Petratto folder pasting machine and D&K thermal laminator of 1.6m width and 50 metres per minute speed.

The printer claims to have seen the other machines along with Korean and Chinese. "Bobst was perfect for our applications and we got good support as well," said Mubarak.

With the new setup Masar is planning to develop new applications as well and cater to UAE and gulf region.
