EFI Vutek h3

A next generation mid-range hybrid built entirely from the ground up, words by Richard Stuart-Turner.

What does it do?
The belt-driven 3.2m-wide h3 is built to sit above the GS and just below the HS in EFI’s Vutek printer portfolio, but is a completely new hybrid platform that is not based on either.
With three rows of Ricoh Gen 5 printheads that have a minimum drop size of 7pl and operates in greyscale mode, the 10-channel machine can print up to nine layers in a single pass and runs at up to 1,200dpi. It is one-day field upgradable to the h5 configuration, which has five rows of heads and will be available in early 2019.

What does it do?
The PlateRite Ultima 16000N is the latest version of the 16-up (1,470x1,180mm) member of Screen’s range of thermal platesetters. It is offered in a range of configurations depending on the user’s plate volume and automation needs ranging from totally manual loading and unloading through to fully automatic plate handling with up to six plate cassettes online.

CSL DuraUV 1600

A tweaked Roland opens up new UV LED-based possibilities.

What does it do?
CSL’s DuraUV 1600 makes UV LED printing affordable and easy to use for the bulk of the wide-format market that previously only had the choice of eco-solvent or latex inks. The firm claims that the biggest benefit of UV over the rival technologies is that it makes it possible to print onto a wider range of media, in particular heat-sensitive substrates while lowering running costs and enabling instant turnaround.
