Other: HP expands wide-format offer with launch of FB700 at Fespa

James Gandy, one of the pioneers of wide-format printing technology, marked his return to the industry at Fespa with a preview of his new firm and its "revolutionary" new machine, which is due to be launched in the autumn of this year.

Gandy Digital picked the trade show to introduce the Pred8tor, a 1.25x2.5m machine, which the firm claims is the first machine to deliver flatbed and roll-to-roll printing in a single machine without compromising on quality or productivity in either setup.

"Everything is new on the Pred8tor," said Gandy, chief executive of Gandy Digital.

"At the design stage we wanted a revolutionary digital printer in every way. We wanted to make things simpler to use without compromising quality."

Gandy Digital claims the Pred8tor will take less than a minute to print a full-format bed, a maximum print speed - excluding sheet loading and unloading - of over 180m2 per hour.

The firm has billed the machine as the "first commercially available high-speed grey-scale printer".

White and varnish will be available in addition to CMYK and the output is claimed to be "1,200dpi photographic", although the full specification will only be revealed in October.
